On 4 and 5 May 2023, Judge Laura-Iuliana Scântei represented the Constitutional Court of Romania in the International Conference with the topic Climate Change as a Challenge for Constitutional Law and Constitutional Courts, event organised by the German Federal Constitutional Court in Berlin.
The International Conference was structured in three sessions: Recourse to constitutional courts in climate litigation cases, Constitutional responsibility: causality, duties of protection, freedoms and The potential of constitutional courts in tackling climate change: their possibilities and limitations in the political process, and was attended by high representatives, amongst whom Prof. Dr. Koen Lenaerts, President of the Court of Justice of the European Union, Right Hon Lord Hamblen of Kersey, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, Prof. Silvana Sciarra, President of the Constitutional Court of Italy, Mr. Laurent Fabius, President of the French Constitutional Council, Prof. Dr. Dineke de Groot, President of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands, Dr. iur. François Chaix, Vice-President of the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Verena Madner, Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of Austria, D. Matej Accetto, President of the Constitutional Court of Slovenia, Dr. Snježana Bagić, Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of Croatia, as well as by representatives of the national authorities and academia.
