On 9 September 2020, the President of the Constitutional Court of Romania, Professor Valer Dorneanu, PhD, held a video-conference discussion with the President of the Supreme Court of Canada, Mr Richard Wagner, within the bilateral judicial dialogue.
It marks the opening of bilateral relations between the Constitutional Court of Romania and the Supreme Court of Canada and started with a mutual presentation of the powers, with brief incursions into the relevant recent case-law, providing an excellent opportunity to review the state of achievement of common objectives at bilateral and multilateral level, as expression of a good collaboration, including in terms of the perspectives offered by the Supreme Court of Canada’s Presidency of the Association of Francophone Constitutional Courts.
In this register, as the current global health restrictions prevent the organization of the A.C.C.F. Bureau meeting in Bucharest in October this year, President Valer Dorneanu reiterated the availability of the Constitutional Court of Romania to host it in 2021 as a priority objective of its external agenda.
Both parties expressed their hope for a positive evolution of this health crisis, the President of the Constitutional Court of Romania addressing an invitation to the President of the Supreme Court of Canada to continue and preserve an active bilateral dialogue in Bucharest next year.
