The Constitutional Court of Romania is deeply concerned about the evolution of the events related to the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova.
We express our full solidarity and empathy to our colleagues, members of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova.
We disapprove the concerted attacks against the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova and the constitutional crisis created in Moldova, which seeks to annihilate efforts to build, maintain and strengthen a genuine democracy.
Urging non-compliance with the decisions of the Constitutional Court amounts unequivocally to instigating non-compliance with the law, the rule of law, to nullifying the very essence of democracy.
The supremacy and prevalence of the Constitution are common ideals that find their source in our common history but also in our European future.
Since its establishment by the Constitution of 1994, the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova has gained a good international reputation, which has justified its election for the presidency of the Conference of European Constitutional Courts, for a term of 3 years (2021-2024), which comprises 41 courts of constitutional jurisdiction. This meant a new European confirmation of which we are proud, as an expression of genuine European constitutionalism.
It is eloquent in this respect to recall the international events hosted by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova, with a constitutional theme, the variety and topicality of the matters discussed that have had a positive echo, a full and well-deserved international recognition and support.
We are walking together and will take the road that is proving to be difficult for us at times, having the difficult task of validating and strengthening constitutional democracy and the rule of law.
PLENARY OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF ROMANIA
